Understanding the campaign

What is "IT'S THE GESTURE THAT COUNTS"?

It is an international campaign by the Roger Milla Program, initiated by Roger Milla. It invites everyone to contribute to three priorities: fighting noma, improving access to clean water and developing the Roger Milla Centre of Excellence hospital project in Cameroon.

Who can participate?

Everyone: citizens, associations, supporters, sports clubs, healthcare professionals, businesses, foundations and institutions. Each person can contribute according to their resources and expertise.

Do I have to donate to join the campaign?

No. You can sign the petition, share the campaign, raise awareness of a cause or offer your help. Financial support is one of several ways to participate.

Sign the petition against noma

What does the petition ask for?

It calls on governments, health institutions and international partners to strengthen prevention, early detection, free access to care and support for children affected by noma. It also champions survivors' rights, dignity and social inclusion.

Why aim for one billion signatures?

This is an ambition for worldwide mobilisation, intended to raise broad awareness of the cause. It does not represent a result already achieved. The number of signatures actually collected must be distinguished from this goal.

Does signing the petition mean making a donation?

No. Signing expresses your support for the petition's demands. Making a donation is a separate, voluntary action.

Where can I find the petition?

On the Roger Milla Program website, in the dedicated petition section.

Support Access to Safe Drinking Water

What projects does the campaign aim to support?

The campaign mobilises support to improve access to clean water in schools and communities, based on locally identified needs. Each project should specify its location, proposed infrastructure, budget and operating arrangements.

Discovering the hospital project

What is the Roger Milla Centre of Excellence?

It is a proposed hospital near Yaoundé-Nsimalen, Cameroon. It aims to strengthen access to specialist care, particularly maxillofacial and reconstructive surgery, alongside training for healthcare professionals.

Has the hospital already been built or opened?

The hospital is presented as a project in preparation. Its implementation remains subject to feasibility studies, regulatory approvals and the mobilisation of funding. No opening date has been announced at this stage.

Who would the future hospital serve?

The project is intended for children and adults needing specialist care. Caring for children living with the lasting effects of noma would be one of its priorities. The medical programme and admission arrangements remain to be defined with the relevant authorities and medical partners.

Can I already request admission or surgery?

The hospital project is not currently an operational healthcare service. At this stage, it therefore cannot guarantee admission or schedule surgery at the future centre.

make a donation

Can I choose the cause I want to support?

The "Choose a cause and donate" section presents the available ways to contribute. Before donating, review the purpose of the fundraising initiative and the intended use of the funds.

What will my donation be used for?

This depends on the fundraising initiative you choose. Each campaign should identify its beneficiary, planned expenditure and the stage of the project it supports.

A donation towards project preparation should be clearly distinguished from one funding an activity ready for implementation.

Does a specific donation amount pay for an operation or a piece of equipment?

Such a link should only be stated when it is based on a documented cost. Without that information, a donation contributes to the collective funding of the initiative concerned.

How can I follow the use of donations?

Visit the fundraising page and the "News and Milestones" section. Progress updates are intended to explain the contributions received, their allocation, achievements and needs still to be met.

Proposing a partnership

How can a business, club or association contribute?

You can offer financial, technical or in-kind support, provide expertise or share the campaign with your community. Contact our team to define a contribution suited to the needs.

Can I organise an initiative in the campaign's name?

This depends on the fundraising initiative you choose. Each campaign should identify its beneficiary, planned expenditure and the stage of the project it supports.

A donation towards project preparation should be clearly distinguished from one funding an activity ready for implementation.
